Imtiaz Ali Explains How He Tackles Politics

One of the popular Bollywood director Imtiyaz Ali, has made some iconic films like Love Aaj Kal and Rockstar in the past. However, somehow, his latest movies are not working out, and the most recent one, Main Vaapas Aavunga, has not shaken up the box office, while it collected ₹96 gross total, thanks to the loyal Imtiyaz Ali fans.

In fact, the movie is about an incident that takes place during the partition of India and Pakistan, and people have started accusing Imtiyaz Ali of being an anti-partition guy and hence this story. After the release of the movie, however, it hasn’t got any rave reviews, though some critics who like Imtiyaz’s style of movies have praised him. Talking about all of this, Imtiyaz clarified that he never mixes politics with films.

“Filmmakers can explore topics related to political things, but their intention should not be attacking or harming someone with that narrative. Rather than proving or blaming a particular political leader, community or ideology in his movies, he chooses to showcase human emotions and the impact of events on ordinary people,” said Imtiyaz Ali in an interview.

Main Vaapas Aavunga, featuring Diljith Dosanjh, Vedang Raina, Sharvari and others got released last month on June 12, 2026, but haven’t got great reviews.
