Not A Good Start For 'Indian 2' At Box Office!
Shankar and Kamal Haasan's high-budget vigilante drama 'Indian 2' arrived in theatres on 12th July and got mixed to negative reviews
Shankar and Kamal Haasan's high-budget vigilante drama 'Indian 2' arrived in theatres on 12th July and got mixed to negative reviews. Not just the critics but the audience too found a lot of flaws in the film starting from Kamal's look as Senapathi to lack of emotions in this film with slow screenplay. Despite a few good scenes in between, the movie turned out to be a disappointment.
There were concerns about this film ever since the teaser dropped and the trailer too did not meet the expectations. People missed AR Rahman and Anirudh failed to give super hit music for this film. It is released in multiple languages and people waited for the reviews to come out before stepping into the theatres. Due to all these, the movie did not get a great start on the first day,
On the whole, the movie earned only 26 crores while many expected it to get at least 50 crores on its first day. It bagged 17 crores in Tamil Nadu while it got 7.7 crores in the Telugu states. It earned only 1.2 crores in Hindi. Sources say that it managed to get $1 million in the overseas market. 'Indian 2: Zero Tolerance' collected way less than what Kamal's last blockbuster film 'Vikram' did at the box office.
The Lokesh Kanagaraj action drama got 66 crores on its first day while 'Kalki 2898 AD' in which Kamal was a part of, got 191.5 crores gross worldwide. On the whole, 'Indian 2' is performing way more slowly than expected. Many say that the sequel is nowhere near the 'Indian' that released back in 1996. Previously, Kamal's 'Vishwaroopam' got 20 crores on Day 1 while the second part got only 7.7 crores. Let us see what happens in the coming days.
