Director’s Honesty Bowls Out Jagapathi Babu

Senior star Jagapathi Babu’s latest comments once again exposed one brutal reality of the film industry. Here, the market always wins over emotions. While interacting with the media, to promote his latest outing Peddi, where he’s playing the role of Appalasoori, whose look itself has triggered lots of curiosity, the actor made some interesting comments.

The senior hero, who has turned to character roles, has revealed that he was actually the first choice for the powerful Raayanam character, father of the heroine, in the superhit film, Uppena, which is the debut of director Buchi Babu Sana. The director even went to Jagapathi Babu’s house and narrated the script personally. But later, Vijay Sethupathi played the part quite surprisingly. What made Jagapathi Babu’s statement interesting was not the rejection but the honesty behind it.

According to him, when he questioned Buchi Babu about the sudden change, the director openly admitted that Vijay Sethupathi had a “better market.” No diplomatic answers. No fake excuses. Just a straight answer. And Jagapathi Babu surprisingly took it sportively. Interestingly, Uppena became a huge blockbuster, and Vijay Sethupathi’s performance as Raayanam received tremendous appreciation.

But at the same time, many now feel Jagapathi Babu would have also brought a completely different intensity to the role. Especially after seeing his terrifying performances in films like Legend, Rangasthalam, and Aravinda Sametha, audiences can easily imagine how dangerous his version of Raayanam could have been. Hope he will do that magic with Appalasoori role now.
