Just when fans were still buzzing over the teaser drop for Allu Arjun and Atlee’s upcoming biggie, Sun Pictures has shifted attention yet again this time with Jailer 2. The production house, which has been making all the right noises in the industry with its high-stake films, is now creating a stir with the kind of numbers it’s quoting for Superstar Rajinikanth’s sequel.

After the original Jailer turned into a box office storm especially in Tamil and Telugu markets expectations have gone sky high. The film had a slow start on release day but turned the tables with blockbuster word of mouth, eventually crossing Rs 100 crore. With that kind of buzz still fresh in the trade circles, a leading Tollywood production house recently tried to acquire Telugu theatrical rights for the sequel by offering a whopping Rs 60 crore.

However, Sun Pictures didn’t blink. The offer was politely declined, and insiders reveal the makers are holding out for a much higher price. They strongly believe the sequel has the power to outperform the original. Still, the Telugu company backed out, citing past examples like 2.0 the Rajinikanth-starrer that didn’t quite live up to its massive expectations despite the star power.

The pressure is building and so is the anticipation. Whether Sun Pictures gets the deal it wants or not, one thing is clear they know what they’ve got on their hands. With Rajinikanth returning in a brand-new avatar for Jailer 2, the stakes are sky-high and so is the asking price. All eyes now are on who’s bold enough to bite the bait.
