Is Rashmika Mandanna a Tamil Actress?

Rashmika Mandanna has once again become a topic of discussion on social media. This time, the debate is about her language and Hindi pronunciation. Veteran writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar has come forward to support the actress and questioned people who criticise her accent.

Rashmika recently spoke about the criticism she has faced throughout her acting career. From her performances to her dialogue delivery, the actress said people have found different reasons to troll her. However, she made it clear that such comments would not stop her from working in different film industries.

During her appearance on Koffee With Karan Season 9, Rashmika explained that she never wanted to limit herself to one language or one film industry. She wanted to explore different roles and work in films across India. According to her, having a South Indian accent while speaking Hindi should not be treated as a problem because she comes from South India.

Javed Akhtar reacted to the issue through a post on X. He criticised people who question Rashmika's pronunciation and challenged them to try speaking Tamil themselves. His message focused on respecting different languages and avoiding the feeling that one language is superior to another.

However, his post also created another discussion online. While defending Rashmika, Javed referred to her as a Tamil actor. Several social media users pointed out that Rashmika is from Karnataka and is a Kannadiga. She has also built a strong career in Telugu cinema and gained popularity across the country.

As a result, the conversation shifted from her Hindi accent to the importance of correctly recognising an actor's regional identity.
