Shankar’s magnum opus Indian 2 has finally hit theaters after numerous delays. The postponements put the film in a negative spotlight but now that it’s released all attention is on its global box office performance. meanwhile, a lot of speculation surrounds the film's budget and Kamal Haasan’s salary. Indian 2 is the sequel to the 1996 film Indian which starred Kamal Haasan, Manisha Koirala and Urmila Matondkar. The original was highly successful both at the box office and on television. Known for his grand productions, Shankar aimed to make this sequel even more spectacular.

The film was announced in 2017, but faced delays due to COVID-19 and other issues, leading to budget increases. Although the exact figures aren’t confirmed, rumors suggest Indian 2 had a production cost of around 250 crores. Combining this with the first installment’s budget the total comes to 500 crores.

Kamal Haasan reportedly charged a staggering 150 crores for his role in Indian 2. This means he earned 75 crores per film for the two installments, taking up about 30% of the film’s budget for his salary alone.

To put this in perspective, Kamal Haasan was allegedly paid around 20 crores for Kalki 2898 AD and about 50 crores for Vikram.
