Karthi is returning to the Sardar franchise with Sardar 2 with director PS Mithran, who is taking the story forward on a much larger canvas. The film is set for a release on September 10, with Annapurna Studios presenting it to Telugu audiences.

For Karthi, the emotional strength of the franchise lies in the sacrifices made by such characters. “A spy does not have a normal family life, and even the sacrifices he makes may never be recognized because nobody is supposed to know what he does.”

The sequel features extensive action, with Karthi particularly excited about the flashback and climax sequences. He described those portions as extraordinary and said the movie demonstrates that South Indian cinema can deliver spy spectacles at a very high technical and visual standard.

Interestingly, the sequel also changes the nature of the spy mission. Karthi observed that several contemporary spy films focus on operations conducted beyond India's borders. Sardar 2, however, revolves around a problem within India and explores how an intelligence officer responds to it.

The physical transformation was not limited to makeup. Karthi also had to rethink the way his older character moves and fights. “I love action. But fighting like an old man was a challenge. He may be old, but he is extremely skilled. Since he is a spy, he has different techniques that he can use.”

The Telugu release carries additional significance for Karthi because of his association with Annapurna Studios and Nagarjuna. He recalled that Sardar was also released in Telugu through Annapurna Studios and expressed happiness that the sequel is following the same route.
