Why Even Blockbuster Producers Wait For Money?

Kiran Abbavaram's comments about the business of the film KA have started a fresh discussion in the Telugu film industry. While promoting Chennai Love Story, the actor explained that a movie's box office collections and the money a producer finally receives are not the same. Now, Chennai Love Story producer SKN has also come forward in the same event to support Kiran Abbavaram's statement.

Sharing his views on social media, SKN said that even when a movie becomes a blockbuster, the producer does not receive all the money immediately. According to him, it takes a long time for the earnings to reach the producer after the film's release.

To explain this, SKN gave the example of his own blockbuster film Baby, which was released in 2023. He revealed that even after the film became a huge commercial success, the production team is still waiting to receive payments from some distribution areas.

He wrote, "When a film becomes a hit, it takes a lot of time for the money to come back to the producer. Even for Baby (2023), we are still waiting to receive money from a few areas."

His statement supports Kiran Abbavaram's explanation that people should not judge a film's success only by the box office collection numbers shared publicly.

In the film business, producers often sell distribution rights before release. After that, the money collected from theatres first goes through distributors and exhibitors. Only after all settlements are completed does the remaining amount reach the producer. Because of this process, even a successful movie may not bring immediate profits to its producer.

SKN's comments have now given fans a better understanding of how the movie business works behind the scenes. His example of Baby shows that delayed payments are common in the industry, even for blockbuster films.

Meanwhile, Kiran Abbavaram is busy promoting Chennai Love Story, which is scheduled to release in theatres on July 24.
