AI Makeover: Rajni & Deepika’s Old Film In New Bottle

Back in 2009, Hollywood had stunned the world with “Avatar”, a photo-realistic animation film made from motion-capture technology. Taking cognisance of that, Superstar Rajnikanth’s younger daughter Soundarya has come up with the movie “Kochadaiyan”, featuring the CG-realistic character of her father as well as Deepika Padukone playing the female lead. The film failed to click at the box office, however.
Back then, many people criticised the film for a lack of proper animations, photo-realistic quality and the not-so-near looks of Rajni and Deepika. However, a decade later, Soundarya has made use of AI-technology and brought the remastered version of the movie, whose glimpse was released the other day.
“More than a decade ago, we dared to attempt something India had never done before … a photorealistic performance motion capture feature film. It challenged me … It changed me. This one’s personal. Some journeys don’t end. They evolve”, shared Soundarya, after releasing the glimpse on her social media page. After enhancing every single frame and sequence from the movie, she wants to re-cut the movie as well.
Reports are coming up that the remastered Kochadaiyan will be released in theatres very soon. We have to see how far this old wine in a new bottle kind of treatment works, when the original flopped at that time.
