Sometimes, a few heroines start on a banger, scoring a monstrous hit with their first film itself, and then grab so many films back-to-back. That happened in the case of Samantha Ruth Prabhu in 2010, and then in the case of Kriti Shetty in 2020. Mangalore-based Kriti, who was brought up in Mumbai, debuted as the leading lady in Telugu films through Uppena and scored a massive success. But then, things didn’t go as planned.

Most of Kriti’s Telugu movies, which have come later, have failed to click. Barring a couple of movies, she starred in a half-dozen films that never worked at the box office. Later, with Telugu offers dying, she went to Kollywood, with the hope of making it big. But surprisingly, her debut Tamil film, Karthi’s Vaa Vaathiyar (Annagaru Vacharu in Telugu) has gone for a toss. Even her acting and glamorous addition to the songs didn’t work out. The same is the case with her Malayalam debut film ARM opposite Tovino Thomas, and that too didn’t click.

Now comes her second Tamil film, Pradeep Ranganathan’s LIK, which got delayed for months before hitting the cinemas. While there are huge expectations for Kriti on this movie, and she promoted it for 10 days in a row, to make sure that everyone talks about it, the luck didn’t favour her. The film got outright below-average talk in Tamil centres on Day 1, while Telugu states have outrightly rejected it. Well, that’s pure bad luck for a heroine who started on a bang almost 6 years ago. She’s in discussions for Anil Ravipudi’s next now.
