Tollywood vs Bollywood: How Are Actresses Treated?

The debate about how actresses are treated in the Indian film industry has been going on for years. Many heroines have spoken about their experiences in Bollywood and South Indian cinema. While both industries have their own challenges, some actresses feel that the opportunities they receive can be very different.

Actress Kriti Verma has now shared her experience of working in Telugu cinema. Her comments have once again started a discussion about the differences between Bollywood and Tollywood.

Kriti became popular through Hindi reality shows such as Roadies and Bigg Boss. She said that these shows gave her the recognition needed to enter the film industry. Interestingly, her entry into Telugu cinema happened unexpectedly.

According to Kriti, she was performing at a live dance event in Jaipur when a person from the Telugu film industry noticed her. She was later offered an item song in a Telugu movie. That opportunity helped her get noticed in the South, and she eventually received an offer to play a lead role.

Kriti feels that Telugu cinema gave her an opportunity that she may not have easily received in Bollywood. She openly said that she believes nepotism is a major factor in Bollywood and that this is one reason she does not try too hard there.

She also praised the way people in the Telugu industry treated her. Kriti described Telugu people as warm and welcoming and said she received a lot of love after entering the industry. For her, the South provided a chance to grow from a reality-show personality into a lead actress.

However, Kriti also recalled one uncomfortable incident on a Telugu film set. A language barrier reportedly created confusion between her and the hair and makeup team. She said the situation was misunderstood and created unnecessary tension.

Her comments show that the experience of actresses cannot always be divided simply into Bollywood versus Tollywood. Every actress can have a different journey depending on the people, projects and opportunities around her.
