'Lal Salaam': A Dagger In The Heart Of Distributors!
It was a dagger in the hearts of distributors who pinned hopes on Rajni's stardom and bought the rights of 'Lal Salaam' for good rates.
When superstar Rajnikanth's film is attached to a movie, it is expected to register good numbers at the box office. Even if it is a small role, Rajni's presence in the movie usually brings a lot of people into theatres. Especially, if it is the immediate film after a blockbuster like 'Jailer', everyone predicts huge hype over that project. But none of these scenarios became a reality for 'Lal Salaam'.
It is directed by Rajni's daughter Aishwarya Rajnikanth and had Vishnu Vishal play the lead. The superstar played an extended cameo and AR Rahman composed the music for this project. But the audience showed minimal interest towards this project and situation in Telugu states is even more dire. It opened to empty halls on the very first day and many shows very cancelled.
It was a dagger in the hearts of distributors who pinned hopes on Rajni's stardom and bought the rights of 'Lal Salaam' for good rates. Sources say that it only earned 1 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana combined. While 'Jailer' earned a share of more than 30 crores in Telugu states, 'Lal Salaam' stunned everyone by earning peanuts on the first weekend. On top of that, the movie got a negative talk which means that there is no chance of the collections picking up at all. 'Lal Salaam' may end up as a disaster venture under Lyca Productions banner.
