Lenin & Chennai: Youths Liked It For A Reason
Though there are some issues like a poor second half and improper screenplay at times, these two movies have managed to get good marks from the audience.
Despite getting some below-average reviews in recent times, both the films, Akhil Akkineni’s Lenin and Kiran Abbavaram’s Chennai Love Story, have done well at the box office. While Lenin managed to get more than ₹60 crores, Chennai Love Story has already made ₹30 crores and is counting, with another good two weeks to go. So what made these films work?
Though there are some issues like a poor second half and improper screenplay at times, these two movies have managed to get good marks from the audience. Some say that this is because both these films have heroines doing somewhat powerful roles. Though the stories are not purely feminist-bent, the powerful, author-backed characters given to women are working out. At the same time, heroes doing down-to-earth emotional roles, crying and not preferring to do elevation shots, have also worked in favour of these movies, it looks like.
Undoubtedly, Chennai Love Story and Lenin are giving clarity that films should be made with honesty, and that would let them work at the box office. At the same time, there should be entertainment through creating a roller-coaster ride of emotions, and that would work more. That too, for youths to like films, surely, these rooted stories and rooted characters are also the need of the hour.
