Tollywood’s July & August, Just Got Spicier

Usually due to the arrival of the monsoon, the reopening of schools and colleges, the months of July and August are never considered to be good for films at the box office. However, these days, every weekend is being seen as a special advantage for movies, as films are running merely for two weeks at the box office. Only some films like Dhurandhar ran for two months, but others are just 2-3-week wonders.
If we look at the July and August releases at the box office, Tollywood is betting huge as movies like Akhil Akkineni’s Lenin (July 10), Tiruveer’s Oh Sukumari (July 17), Kiran Abbavaram’s Chennai Love Story (July 24) and Mahesh Babu’s nephew’s Srinivasa Mangapuram (July 30) are hitting cinemas first.
These are joined by dubbed films like Malayalam movie Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Nobody (July 9th), Vijay’s Jana Nayagan (tentative July 23rd) and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s acting debut DC (July 30th) and Vijay’s son Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut Sigma (July 30th). That makes July fully packed.
But the twists come on mid-month and end, as Hollywood’s most awaited, The Odyssey, will hit cinemas on July 17th, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 30, and their bookings are already earth-shattering at the Indian box office.
Coming to August, we have confirmed releases like Varun Tej’s Korean Kanakaraju (August 7th), Suriya’s Viswanath & Songs (August 14), Raviteja’s Irumudi (August 21) and Yash’s gigantic film Toxic hitting cinemas on August 26th. This is a big month compared to the July releases, and things only get spicier as most of these films are looking promising.
We have to see how many of the films will click, how many will get embraced by the audience, and how many will wind up in less time.
