There was once a time when Tamil cinema was the leading film industry in South India and used to make historical blockbusters that were critically acclaimed and also did exceptionally at the box office. The trend has changed now, and Tollywood is the one that is leading the race now.

To put this into perspective, the most talented Tamil director currently is Lokesh Kanagaraj. He took 170 days to complete the entire shooting process of his upcoming film with superstar Rajinikanth, Coolie. This is the most anticipated Tamil film in the making now.

The positive thing here is that Lokesh could keep the timeline for just 170 working days, which is a very rare case these days. This is absolute peanuts when we compare to the timeline taken by the likes of Rajamouli, Sukumar and Koratala Siva in Telugu.

Our Director take around 1 1/2 to 2 years to make a single pan India film while Lokesh is completing the entire in another six months. The whole process is lasting just one year.

However, this is where the logistical and fiscal prospects coming to. If we compare the box, Office performance of Telugu star Director films with Lokesh’s films, the difference is staggering.

For instance, the biggest hit in Lokesh’s career is Leo. This film hardly touched 450 crores. On the other hand, we have Koratala Siva who made Devara and it easily touched Rs 500 crore.

When it comes to Sukumar and Rajamouli, despite their elongated making periods, they deliver Rs 1000 crore to 1500 crore films. This is the difference that sets them apart from the rest of the South Indian filmmakers and also Indian filmmakers.

Despite the elongated timeline, our directors make films with far bigger production values, and commercial appeal. This is bigger than the version of Lokesh Kanagaraj, or anyone else for that matter. This is proving to be the difference between our directors and talented Tamil film makers like Lokesh Kanagaraj.
