The film Dhurandhar: The Revenge has become a huge success at the box office. Starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, the movie has earned more than ₹1,100 crore worldwide. While the makers are celebrating this achievement, an unexpected reaction has come from people living in Lyari, a place in Pakistan that inspired the film’s story.
Some residents of Lyari are now asking for a share of the movie’s earnings. Their demand became viral after a video showed locals sharing their opinions. One person said that if the film earned ₹1,000 crore, at least half of it should be given to Lyari. He explained that the money could help improve roads and living conditions in their area, where basic facilities are still poor.
Another resident went even further and said that 70% to 80% of the earnings should be given to Lyari. According to him, the film used the name and situations of their locality, so the people there deserve financial support. Some others simply expressed hope that their area would develop and benefit in some way from the film’s success.
The movie is directed by Aditya Dhar and tells the story of Hamza, an undercover intelligence officer. In the film, Hamza enters the dangerous gang networks of Lyari and slowly rises to power while secretly working to destroy criminal and terror groups. The film also features popular actors like Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Sanjay Dutt.
The first part of the film franchise was also a massive hit, earning around ₹1,300 crore globally. Now, the sequel is continuing that success. However, this unusual demand from Lyari residents has added a new discussion around the film.
So far, the filmmakers have not responded to these requests. Meanwhile, people in Lyari are watching the film’s growing collections and hoping that some benefit might come their way in the future.
