Vijay Faces Major Setback in Madras High Court
Now he has faced a setback at the Madras High Court and let us have a look into the same.;
Popular actor and TVK party chief Vijay has faced a legal setback in the Madras High Court. The court dismissed the petition filed by Vijay against the Income Tax Department, which had imposed a penalty on him for hiding income during the 2015–16 financial year.
The Income Tax Department had issued notices to Vijay, asking him to pay a penalty of ₹1.50 crore. Challenging this action, Vijay approached the High Court in 2022, requesting the court to cancel the penalty. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its judgment last month. Recently, it delivered its final verdict and rejected Vijay’s petition.
As per the Income Tax Department’s report, Vijay earned nearly ₹35 crore during the 2015–16 financial year. However, officials stated that he did not declare ₹15 crore received for acting in the film Puli. During income tax searches conducted at his residence, officials reportedly found documents that confirmed this undisclosed income.
Based on this evidence, the department concluded that Vijay had hidden part of his earnings. Due to this, a penalty of ₹1.50 crore was imposed under income tax rules. The High Court agreed with the department’s findings and ruled that there was no strong reason to cancel the penalty. As a result, Vijay must now comply with the tax order.
This legal setback comes at a time when Vijay is already dealing with problems on the professional front. His upcoming and final film Jana Nayagan is facing serious delays due to censor-related issues. The movie, which was expected to release earlier, is yet to receive final clearance from the censor board.
Because of these issues, both Vijay’s political and film journeys are currently under pressure.
