Varanasi Date Locked: 1 Good, 1 Bad In US!

The United States box office is going to witness one of the biggest releases in recent years in the form of Varanasi, which has officially locked April 7, 2027 as its release date.

On one hand, it was earlier expected that the film would release with Tuesday one plus one offers in the United States, which could be a significant boot to the ticket sales. And also, the film would benefit from the spring season holidays to schools, which would be another crucial factor.

Varanasi is set for its overseas premieres on Tuesday April 6th 2027 and the release strategy immediately stands out as bold and ambitious. A Tuesday premiere offers no pricing advantage as there are no weekday discount schemes in most overseas markets.

This removes a cushion that often helps boost early footfalls. On top of that mid week releases are traditionally harder to manage since working audiences limit show timings and premium screen availability especially during the opening days.

The global theatrical calendar around that period is also far from empty. Godzilla x Kong Supernova is scheduled to release on March 26th and is expected to secure a two week IMAX commitment.

While IMAX screens are known to be flexible after the first week the initial dominance of a Hollywood tentpole cannot be ignored. In addition one Universal and one Disney film are lined up for release on April 2nd with titles yet to be announced which could further crowd screens and audience attention.

Despite these hurdles expectations remain sky high. Trade circles are confident that Varanasi will still manage a massive release overseas with strong screen counts and packed premiere shows.

Early buzz suggests that the film is poised for a record breaking opening with numbers that could redefine benchmarks. The true scale of its impact will only become clear once the premieres roll out.
