After the big title launch, when SS Rajamouli announced Superstar Mahesh Babu as Lord Rama, fans went a little crazy. Everyone started comparing him to Ranbir Kapoor, who’s playing Rama in Bollywood’s Ramayana, with Yash as Ravan. The teaser for the Hindi version already has people talking, so naturally, the debates about who will pull off Rama better began immediately.

Bollywood has had a bunch of Ram actors, Trilok Kapoor, Rakesh Pandey, Jeetendra. In Tollywood, NTR was Rama in Lava Kusa, Shobhan Babu in Sampoorna Ramayana, Balakrishna in Sri Rama Rajyam, and Suman in Sri Ramadasu. Prabhas in Adipurush did something different, so it’s not like there’s a single benchmark. Every actor brings their own style, and every version has its own flavor.

The budgets are crazy different too. Bollywood is reportedly spending around 4000 crores, while Rajamouli is doing Varanasi for roughly 1000 crores. But here’s the thing, Mahesh Babu’s Rama appears in just one episode, with the rest of the film jumping across timelines and backdrops. So all this speculation about who will do it better is kind of pointless.

Honestly, if anyone can make a smaller-budget Rama unforgettable, it’s Rajamouli. He’s done it before with Eega and a bunch of animation-heavy films. Even with less money, Mahesh Babu’s Rama is likely to stick in people’s minds. It’s not about scale, it’s about the punch Rajamouli packs into every frame.
