Athadu has its own place in Superstar Mahesh Babu’s career. It showed a different side of him and became a film people can watch any number of times without getting bored. On the occasion of Mahesh’s birthday, this Trivikram Srinivas classic is back in theatres. The moment the re-release news came out, fans went into celebration mode. Advance bookings picked up instantly, and even overseas shows are getting strong demand.

In the Telugu states, the response is just as big. Asian Sunil is releasing Athadu on a large scale in the Nizam region. Sudarshan 35MM and Devi theatres in Hyderabad are already running housefull boards. In Tirupati, fans have taken it up another level. At Palani Theatre, they have arranged 500 kilograms of paper to shower during the 11:30 am and 6:30 pm shows. Videos of them cutting the paper are already making the rounds on social media.

Industry talk is that Athadu’s re-release theatrical rights in Andhra Pradesh alone went for over ₹3 crore — huge for a film that’s 20 years old. That’s the strength of its fan following.

When it first released in 2005, Athadu gave Mahesh Babu a major boost both at the box office and with critics. Trivikram’s sharp dialogues, Mani Sharma’s music, and Mahesh’s stylish performance turned it into a cult favourite. Now, it’s back to give both longtime fans and first-time viewers the big-screen experience again. And today, on Mahesh’s birthday, the whistles, cheers, and 500 kg of flying paper will make sure the celebration is one for the books.
