Dreams don’t always walk straight, sometimes they take turns you never plan. That’s pretty much what happened to Mamitha Baiju. The Malayalam actress, who caught everyone’s eye with Premalu and later Dude, once thought she’d be treating patients, not facing cameras. In a recent chat, she opened up about how her life just drifted from medicine to movies, and she doesn’t regret it one bit.

Mamitha said her first love was medicine. My dad’s a doctor, and when I used to visit his clinic as a kid, everyone would call me ‘Baby Doctor’. I felt proud. I wanted to be like him, she laughed. But somewhere around 9th class, life surprised her. Her dad’s friend, who was producing a film called Sarvopari Balakkaran, pushed her to audition. I went just for fun, she said, and suddenly I was part of the film. That’s how it started. No plan, no dream, just happened.

From there, acting slowly became her world. Cinema feels alive to me. Every character I play adds something new. It’s emotional, exciting, and kind of addictive, she said. Her tone carried that mix of wonder and disbelief, like someone still processing how far she’s come. I used to dream of holding a stethoscope; now I hold scripts, she joked lightly.

Now, Mamitha’s face pops up everywhere, in posters, reels, and fan edits. People love her for being raw and real, both on and off screen. Her doctor dream may have faded away, but she found something just as powerful, a place in people’s hearts. I guess life knows better than us sometimes, she said casually. And honestly, hearing her say that, it’s hard not to believe it.
