Sharwanand's recent outing 'Manamey' did not meet the expectations of the audience. The film got a good response for its promotional content but the movie turned out to be subpar according to many. The emotions did not work out and the love story was not established properly according to many. As we know, it is heavily inspired by 'Life As We Know It'.

Getting inspiration from Hollywood films is nothing new to Tollywood. But it got reduced due to the availability of world cinema through OTT platforms. Also, there were writers in the olden days who used to take the basic premise of a Hollywood story and turn it into a complete local film with their talent. They used to make it appealing to the Indian culture and taste. People often used to get surprised when they learn that it was inspired by a Hollywood movie.

Even Rajamouli copied 'Maryada Ramanna' from 'Our Hospitality' but him along with his team made sure that it looks like our own film by adding Rayalaseema touch and Indianizing it completely. There was 'Sisindri' which is based on 'Baby's Day Out' but the makers changed a lot and brought local emotions into it. This is where 'Manamey' went wrong according to the pundits. The movie wasn't able to connect with the audience and the foreign backdrop too did not work out.

While a few sentiment scenes were decent, neither the love track nor the entertainment worked in this film. The slow narration did not help as well. 'Manamey' once again proved to everyone that the writing needs to be rooted no matter where the story is inspired from.
