Talented Star Disbelieves “Varanasi” Budget

Recently, hotshot heroine Priyanka Chopra has stated in a couple of interviews that the budget of SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus Varanasi, where she’s playing a female lead opposite Mahesh Babu, is more than 700 crores. Then the makers of the upcoming Ramayana have confirmed on multiple occasions that they are spending close to ₹1000 crores to give a terrific experience for the audience. While the statements immediately garnered attention, virality, and went on trending on social media, here comes a senior star who is actually dismissing them.

“Even I’ve heard a lot about the budgets of these films. But they are actually a PR tactic, amplified to get attention for those movies, and that happened,” says Manoj Bajpayee, the star of films like Satya, who has recently become a heartthrob of Gen Z as well with “The Family Man” web series. He also stated that even the casual discussion between fans is mostly centred around numbers, budgets and box office of the film, rather than the content of the movie. He even felt that these days even actors are being cast based on the following they have on social media, but not based on their acting potential.

Well, most of the points commented upon by Manoj Bajpayee are true, but then, the whole of the industry is going mad after this trend, no matter what the complications are like. Otherwise, many actresses with more than 25+ million followers have become stars only because of their photoshoots, but not for their acting prowess. Coming to movie budgets, well, no one knows the truth about it better than the producers.
