Living and behaving like that character is called ‘method acting’, while reacting to the lines of other actors and behaving based on instincts is called ‘classical acting’. We often see Malayalam actors and actors trained at institutes like the National School of Drama or Pune Film Institute being called as ‘method actors’, while our stars are called just stars, but nothing else. But without acting prowess, neither Chiranjeevi nor Prabhas would become the superstars they are today. So what kind of acting do our stars do?

Most of the time, our stars try to do both. For simple romantic scenes and love scenes, there’s not much practice required, as that reaction to the dialogues usually occurs. That means most of them are doing the classical acting here. However, scenes involving heavy dialogues, emotional quotient, and drama that have the edge to move lots of people require lots of practice from the actors. First, they will learn the dialogues by heart, then try to infuse the emotion with the method-acting method. So usually our actors follow this hybrid style of acting.

However, what makes the true difference is that actors or any artists, to that matter, need to be liberal and have a clear-cut ideology that stands with people but not politics and policies. Also, they need to have a deep understanding of subjects, emotions, empathy and caring, which makes them very good at acting. But then, where are such great roles being written and directed, such that the brilliant actors come out of these stars is a debate for another day.
