Generally, when a big film is releasing in theatres, there is a lot of anticipation and hype surrounding it. A similar scenario was observed in the case of Hollywood’s latest biographical dance drama, Michael, which is based on sensation, Michael Jackson.
The film released in theatres yesterday, April 23, in India and great things were expected of the same, considering the rich legacy that Michael had built for himself. Interestingly enough, this film had a significant following even in the Indian market, and was expected to do very well here.
However, it turned out to be that the anticipation and hype on the film were rather hallow. Despite all the expectations that were placed on Michael, the film has reportedly underperformed and underdeliver to the fullest capacity.
The reviews have been very weak for this biographical dance drama, which is based on Michael Jackson and it is also reported that certain aspects of his life was not covered fully.
For a biographical drama to succeed, the film will also have to show the negative side of the protagonist and also cover his or her down fall. But in the case of this film, it is being reported that only the positive side has been covered by the makers while the negative side has been conveniently ignored.
This is a very serious problem for the biopic of this scale, and that is the reason why the drama actor might not have worked out in theatrical experience.
It turns out to be that this film which had originally released with a lot of anticipation and expectations has failed to match the same. The drama factor surrounding the life story of Michael Jackson simply did not work out, and we have to see where this film would end up at the ticket counters now.
At one point, it was expected that this film could collect over $1 billion globally. But this looks like a distant dream, considering the poor reviews that it has generated. A lot will depend on the kind of momentum that it will carry in the Indian market over the weekend.
