Nagarjuna Says Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Lack Guts To Remake His Cult Film
When asked about working with Nagarjuna again, RGV replied, “I will approach him only after I deliver a hit film.”;
Nagarjuna’s iconic film "Shiva" remains one of the most influential movies in Indian cinema. Directed by Ram Gopal Varma (RGV), the film became a game-changer when it was released and continues to inspire filmmakers even today. Now, this cult classic is all set for a grand re-release on November 14th.
During a recent event, RGV shared interesting memories about making the film. He said that music was a big challenge during production. “With Dolby Atmos, we can now experience every sound in full detail. Shiva has always been dedicated to Nagarjuna. I even had doubts about how I could convince him to do the cycle stunt,” he recalled.
Talking about his inspiration, RGV said, “I have always been a huge fan of Bruce Lee. I was planning to make a small film called Rathri when Venkat suggested writing a story for Nagarjuna. After watching Return of the Dragon for the 50th time, I replaced the restaurant setting with a college for Shiva. The one-line story came to me in just 20 minutes.”
When asked about working with Nagarjuna again, RGV replied, “I will approach him only after I deliver a hit film.”
Nagarjuna, on the other hand, expressed his deep gratitude to the director. “When I watched Shiva again recently, it felt like a brand-new film. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Two days after my father watched it, he took me for a drive and told me the film was a huge hit,” he said with emotion.
When asked whether his sons "Naga Chaitanya" or "Akhil" would ever remake "Shiva", Nagarjuna laughed and said, "Chaitanya and Akhil don’t have the guts to remake Shiva." He also added that he wishes to work with "Amala" again in the future.
