Promotions Are Waste Of Money: Vamsi Is Wrong
If you just pour money into events, it’s a waste only, but if you pour it effectively by planning ‘content’ that would go viral, surely the promotions would result in collections.
Sithara Entertainment’s Naga Vamsi is always known for his controversial comments, and sometimes they misfire big time. Right now, Vamsi is promoting his upcoming release, Suriya’s Viswanathan & Sons, and the producers say that all the money spent on promotions like pre-release events, hoardings, and ads is a waste and doesn’t help ticket sales. But it looks like the producer is failing to read the ecosystem properly.
Apparently, Vamsi said: “In recent times, for films like Blast, Chennai Love Story, our own Lenin and other movies, the collections of second show are greater than that of morning-matinee and first-show together. We haven’t done any promotions in that 12-hour window. Only because of word of mouth do things work. The rest of things like pre-release events, hoardings and ads are just a waste of money”.
Well, films like Suriya’s Veerabhadrudu and Arjun’s Blast have worked out purely because of word of mouth. But then, Chennai Love Story can gross more than ₹50 crores, only because SKN has promoted it quite a big time. There’s a talk that the likes of Blast and Karuppu would have made more money if there were promotions. Promotions are not a waste of money, but it depends on how creatively you promote the film.
