Director Nag Ashwin Explains Cameo Strategy in 'Kalki'
While the promotional campaign heavily hinted at Nani's involvement, his absence left fans confused.
The recently released sci-fi epic 'Kalki 2898 AD' boasted an impressive ensemble cast. Big names like Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan graced the screen, but many other heroes from recent Vyjayanthi Movies made blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearances. While the promotional campaign heavily hinted at Nani's involvement, his absence left fans confused.
Director Nag Ashwin clarified that both Nani and Naveen Polishetty will appear in 'Kalki' Part 2. He explained the film's strategy of featuring numerous cameos, stating, "While watching a movie, we enjoy seeing familiar faces, regardless of their role size." This approach aimed to introduce a vast array of characters within the 'Kalki' universe, and most of Vyjayanthi Movies' recent heroes participated.
However, Prabhas' fans expressed dissatisfaction with his limited screen time in 'Kalki'. The perception was that his role felt more like a guest appearance than a central character. Addressing this concern, Nag Ashwin clarified, "Part 1 focused on establishing the 'Kalki' world and its characters.
This inevitably impacted the length of Prabhas' role. Part 2 won't require such extensive world-building, allowing us to delve deeper into his character." He assured fans that Prabhas' role in Part 2 will be significantly more prominent. So, while 'Kalki' offered a star-studded cameo experience, the true spotlight on Prabhas will shine in the upcoming sequel.
