If filmmaking were a jungle, Animal would be the lion that roared louder than anyone expected—only for some to find the roar a bit too much to handle. Among the voices in the cacophony of opinions was veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar, who delivered his critique with his trademark candor. While promoting his upcoming movie Vanavas, Nana’s comments on Animal have stirred fresh conversations about the film’s direction, performances, and impact.

In an interview hosted by Anil Kapoor, who also stars in Animal, Nana Patekar admitted he had been reluctant to watch the film. “To be honest, I didn’t want to watch it at all,” he confessed, adding that peer pressure forced him to give it a go. His take? “Everyone else went a little too far except you,” he told Anil. This subtle jab at the other performances, including those by Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, highlighted Nana’s dissatisfaction with what he perceived as exaggerated portrayals in the movie.

Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal is an action-drama delving into a father-son relationship. Despite receiving criticism for its depiction of women and its intense violence, the film has been a box-office juggernaut, grossing over ₹900 crore worldwide. While fans continue to debate its merits, the announcement of a sequel, Animal Park, has only added to the buzz. Sandeep is slated to begin work on it after wrapping up Spirit, keeping expectations sky-high.

Closing on a lighter note, Nana Patekar’s honesty may not have won him fans among Animal enthusiasts, but his humor remains unmatched. After all, calling it “Anil-Maal” and crediting Anil Kapoor for staying within the “scope of the role” is classic Nana—never afraid to mix critique with a dash of wit, reminding us all that in the jungle of opinions, his roar is both sharp and hilarious.
