In the recent past, several South Indian films have been largely benefited by the kind of rush that is being exhibited by the leading OTT platforms. Netflix has been paying big money to acquire the OTT rights of South Indian big films.

But the latest development are suggesting that Netflix has changed their plan of operation and they have collectively decided not to go after big budget films from South Indian cinema, just for the sake of it.

It is being established that Netflix has decided not to waste their money in buying several South films at exorbitant price. Instead, they are going to produce many web shows and originals here in South. Their new office in Hyderabad is mainly to focus and kick start as many as good original content from South.

This decision has come as a shocker for many Tamil producers because Netflix offers premium pricing compared to other OTT players. This situation will only push producers to stay away from bankrolling big films or stars will be forced to reduce their salary.

This could essentially mean that the production budgets and the span of the films in South Indian cinema could also be largely downsized due to the reluctance of Netflix operations.

Considering the fact that Amazon prime had already started to go easy on acquiring South Indian film films, this decision from Netflix could further affect the industry as a whole.
