Inside Talk: Active Producers Say No To Remunerations
If that doesn’t work out, then they won’t render any advances but will think about buying or ignoring the film only after watching the first copy.
The way OTT platforms are saying ‘no’ to films these days is a big shocker to our star heroes first. Irrespective of who is the hero and the director, most OTTs now want to have a say in the story in advance. If that doesn’t work out, then they won’t render any advances but will think about buying or ignoring the film only after watching the first copy.
Showing a film in advance and deciding on sales is something new to Tollywood, because our producers always sell films based on their buzz only, but never show what’s inside. So, how could our producers make films if OTT platforms are not giving them huge advance money first? In fact, due to this digital-streaming revenue, the biggest investment that has increased is only star heroes and their remunerations.
Thinking in the same director, active producers who are making many happening movies in the coming days are said to have taken a major decision. They want to stop giving huge remunerations to star heroes, but will work only on a profit-sharing model. Before the start of the film, they will give a token advance.
Already, Raviteja agreed to do this. Allu Arjun has been doing this for a long time by taking a nominal signing fee. Many other stars have to fall in line now, as they might not have a film in hand. Some heroes who are demanding exorbitant fees are right now sitting idle because they don’t have a producer who would pay them all of their remuneration well in advance.
