Usually when some producers announce big films, they will take them to the floors no matter what. Unless a hero walks out, or some major script breach occurs, they don’t step back. But now, in Tollywood, even after announcing big projects, some ace production houses like Mythri Movie Makers and Sithara Entertainment are backing off from certain projects. Even People Media Factory slowed down, and DVV Entertainment also went back on some. What’s happening here?

In recent times, Mythri Movie Makers, which was supposed to take off Raviteja’s film, another film of Balakrishna, and another film with a leading Telugu hero, has put all the things on hold. At the same time, Sithara Entertainment walked out of Rishab Shetty’s movie. DVV Entertainment gave up #OG2, and now Pawan Kalyan himself became the producer. Even People’s Media Factory cancelled a lot of their big-ticket films like Eagle 2, while slashing the budgets of ongoing projects. Many are wondering what exactly is happening.

Well, the falling OTT prices are the main reason behind this movie, to start with. Also, OTT platforms are not paying advances, and most of them are watching the film before buying it. There’s no over-the-table deal like earlier. That’s leading to a funds crunch, and as heroes are not coming down in terms of remuneration, producers are also not showing interest in taking such movies forward.

Right now, concept-driven commercial films, made is short and sweet budget, are working out big time. After they score big at box office, surely the digital rights will fetch more money.
