After the horrifying debacle of Hari Hara Veera Mallu, several fingers were pointed at Pawan Kalyan. There are many complaints about his downfall and poor choice in films. But Kalyan appears to have completed a remarkable comeback with his latest film OG.
Needless to say, OG is arguably the most highly anticipated movie of his career. Right from the announcement, fan excitement was unlike anything ordinary.
Even though the film faced delays for various reasons, the hype never faded. Buyers purchased the movie at premium rates, driven by high expectations. The response to paid premieres and the opening day collections brought great joy to everyone involved.
However, after the opening weekend, the film’s pace slowed significantly. By then, buyers had not yet entered a safe zone, as recovery remained below 80 percent. Depending on the area, “OG” managed to recover between 60 and 80 percent. Monday saw a sharp drop in collections, raising concerns among buyers. Minimal shares on Tuesday and Wednesday led to trolling from anti-fans on social media.
Despite the huge hype and positive talk, some rival hero fans argued that Pawan Kalyan was incurring losses and that his films lacked a long run beyond the openings. Even Pawan’s fans felt uneasy. With a strong movie like “Kantara” releasing during the Dasara weekend, sustaining “OG” seemed doubtful.
But in its second weekend, “OG” held strong. On Dasara Thursday and the following weekend, occupancy rose. In Telangana, ticket rates increased from Thursday after falling earlier in the week, while in Andhra Pradesh, rates dropped by Sunday.
It really needs to be said that Kalyan badly needed a comeback film like OG and it is good to see him back on track now.
