Is Peddi Right Follow Up After Dhurandhar 2?

Tollywood started this year on a high with Sankranti. Packed theatres, strong openings and real momentum was brought in by the likes of Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu and other movies. And then, Tollywood is struggling to see similar festival at the box office, in the last three months. At least, Summer was supposed to carry that wave forward, but all the big films like Ustaad Bhagat Singh, then small films like Dacoit, haven’t done much. Now that June 4th is locked towards the last leg of Summer, here’s what trade circuits are expecting.

Ram Charan’s Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, was initially expected to dominate the summer if it hits cinemas on March 19th or April 30th. When it missed the window, it wasn’t just fans who felt the heat, but the entire trade circuit got upset. Now, with a release locked for early June, they say that the film is arriving at the perfect time. This is because right after the IPL ends, when audiences are actively looking for something big to step out for, Peddi drops in theatres.

Backed by Jio Studios for the Hindi release, the film is clearly aiming beyond regional boundaries. Promotions are expected to go aggressively, from Charan and Janhvi Kapoor. And that brings us to the bigger question: Can Peddi become the right follow-up to the Dhurandhar 2 box office wave?

Because Dhurandhar 2 reportedly pushed close to ₹1800 crore globally. That’s not just a hit, that’s a tsunami riding on the success of the First Part. Trade circuits say, for Peddi, even touching half of that, say ₹800–900 crore, would instantly push it into a cult territory. From the video promos to the songs, including the viral “Chikiri” track, Peddi has raked up huge attention. So there’s no surprise even if the film brings huge crowds back to theatres and makes huge numbers.
