Veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan is known for his Bollywood movies like Hera Pheri and his other associations with superstar Akshay Kumar. He has now made the movie ‘Bhooth Bangla’, a horror-comedy that stars Akshay, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi in the leads. As the film is hitting cinemas on April 10th, the director interacted with the press and explained what is actually killing the work culture in Bollywood.
In fact, Priyadarshan openly said that huge entourages on sets are “the worst thing” happening in the Hindi film industry right now. According to him, actors are now coming with large teams including managers, makeup staff, and assistants, and sometimes these groups are even bigger than the actual film crew. When too many people are present on set, it not only becomes difficult for directors to manage but also slows down the entire process. At the same time, Priyadarshan even mentioned that some entourage members are earning more than experienced actors, which shows how much things have changed.
Also, Priyadarshan pointed out that in the South, things are more controlled, and people stick to their roles without crowding the set. On the other hand, some argue that big stars need these teams to manage their schedules, branding, and commitments. However, most of these team members don’t get paid by the stars, but the production keeps feeding them, thus sucking the pockets of producers dry.
For now, Priyadarshan’s comments have triggered a discussion. We have to see if Bollywood takes note or continues the same way.
