After the back-to-back setbacks of Liger and Double iSmart, director Puri Jagannath almost disappeared from the noise. A director who was once known for speed, confidence, and back-to-back releases suddenly went quiet. Though he has finally announced and carved out a film with Vijay Sethupathi, titled “Slumdog: 33 Temple Road”, beyond the initial buzz around the title, there was absolutely nothing.
With no more posters, release dates, shoot updates or glimpses coming from the film, people are naturally wondering if the film is even happening. Inside talk suggests that the film is actually done, with both the shoot completed and Post-production wrapped. Even the Songs got locked and the Final copy is also ready. However, the team is reportedly waiting for the Tamil Nadu elections to get over before they step into promotions. Puri Jagan and Vijay Sethupathi are said to have felt that better timing creates better visibility, rather than losing the box office business in political turmoil.
At the same time, some say that there’s also a business angle in play. OTT deals and distribution negotiations are still under discussion, and nothing concrete got locked. Before that happens, the team doesn’t want to rush into announcements. After the recent failures, Puri Jagan and his partner Charmme are expected to be extra careful with how this film is positioned and sold, but then, we have to see how they will build buzz around the movie, as nothing is working out.
