The once celebrated director of Telugu cinema, Puri Jagan, has quietly wrapped up his next, “Slumdog” featuring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. Shoot done, post-production reportedly locked, but still, no release date or any other sign of this film so far. As the news started spreading, some alarming pieces of information is getting out now.

In today’s market, a film getting delayed after completion usually points to one thing: business is not closed. Despite Vijay Sethupathi being a reliable performer and Puri Jagan being a celebrated star director long back, this film hasn’t closed the OTT deal yet. As per inside talk, Slumdog is yet to finalize its digital partner. And that’s becoming a roadblock. Earlier, theatrical release used to drive everything. Now, OTT has equal, if not bigger, say in the decision-making. With Puri Jagan being the producer of the film as well, surely it’s going to be quite a headache until the release now.

Puri, after back-to-back setbacks, would definitely want to play it safe. Vijay Sethupathi’s presence adds value, but that alone is not enough in the current scenario. Given some of the latest creative films like Double Ismart from the director, it looks like even OTT platforms want to take a final call only after the movie’s release. Even the buyers are not queuing up for theatrical rights of the movie, like once they used to. Hope Slumdog resolves all things soon.
