For a long time now, there has been this famous notion in the South Indian cinema scene where Telugu cinema is the most dominant among all the South Indian film industries. This is going to be established again, if we look at the upcoming box office prospects of big ticket films.

Incidentally, Telugu cinema has one of its biggest blockbuster of all time in the form of Pushpa 2. This film managed to collect the range of ₹290 crore on its opening day, which is by far the biggest opening day number for any Indian film till date.

To put that into perspective, if we compare this supreme positive number with that of Tamil cinema’s biggest opener of the year, Coolie, we might get an idea.

This film which marks the collaboration of superstar, Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj is opening in theatres on August 14, and it is expected to collect in the range of ₹125 crore gross on the opening day.

If we compare the numbers to head, then it must be primarily noted that the opening day number of Pushpa is going to be twice as big as that of Coolie.

Numerically speaking, it is clearly evident that Telugu cinema is many miles ahead of Tamil cinema or any other South Indian film industry for that matter. The kind of numbers that are being generated by Telugu films is not even comparable to any other languages, let alone Tamil films.

But on the other hand, it must be noted that the Rajinikanth film is also great in its own terms, and it will also generate substantial revenues at its own capacity.
