Actor R Madhavan has shared a meaningful message about working parents and how their choices can shape a child’s life. In a recent interview, the actor spoke about growing up in a family where both his parents had jobs. He said that he was a “product of a double-income family” and believes that his parents working helped him get many valuable opportunities.
Madhavan was born in Jamshedpur. His father, Ranganathan, worked at a private company, while his mother, Saroja, worked at a bank. He also has a sister. According to Madhavan, people around them had a different opinion about children with both parents working.
He recalled that many neighbours believed he and his sister were not getting enough attention because both their parents were employed. They reportedly thought the children would not become successful in life. Madhavan said that his parents were often made to feel guilty for choosing their careers.
However, Madhavan does not look at his childhood in the same way. He believes his parents’ jobs actually gave him access to experiences that changed his life. Since the family had two incomes, he got opportunities to travel and take part in international programmes.
The actor said that he was able to travel abroad as an exchange student and also received opportunities through scholarships. These experiences helped him understand the world better and played an important role in shaping his personality.
Madhavan also spoke honestly about his studies. He said that he was not excellent at academics and completed a BSc in Electronics. He recalled that during his childhood, he and his sister spent a lot of time playing outside instead of having their parents constantly monitor their studies.
