Rahul Ravindran Breaks Silence, Shuts Down Arjun Reddy Comparisons!

Sometimes a trailer spreads like a small spark that suddenly turns into a fire, and that’s exactly what happened with The Girlfriend. Rashmika Mandanna is playing the lead, and the film is all set to hit theatres on November 7. But soon after the trailer came out, social media went into a frenzy, comparing it to the cult hit Arjun Reddy. The chatter got so loud that Rahul Ravindran decided to finally speak up.

Rahul was quick to shut down the comparisons. “Arjun Reddy is a cult film. It changed the game for the industry. My film? Not even close. It’s a small story, honestly. I didn’t even think about Arjun Reddy until people started pointing fingers online,” he said. He added that the trailer’s non-linear editing might have given off that vibe, but the film itself is completely different.

Produced by Allu Aravind under the Geetha Arts banner, The Girlfriend also features Kannada actor Dixit Shetty in a key role. Rahul hinted that the movie has its own rhythm and feel, something that’s not trying to ride on someone else’s success. He seemed pretty relaxed about the comparisons, almost like saying, “Let people talk, but we know what we’ve made.”
