Superstar Rajinikanth is returning to the big screens with Coolie which is preparing for release on August 14. The film is witnessing exceptional advance bookings and looks set to post massive openings at the box office.

This is a tale of comeback for Rajini who was once a huge deal in the South Indian cinema space. In recent years, though, apart from Jailer, several of his movies like Petta, Annaatthe, and Vettaiyan did not create much excitement before release. Jailer itself only gained momentum after audiences saw it in theatres.

With his latest film Coolie, the scenario has changed completely. From the moment it was announced, the project has generated immense curiosity. As the release date gets closer, the hype has reached a level higher than any of his recent films.

Advance ticket sales are the biggest indicator of this craze. Even before the premiere, Coolie has managed to collect nearly ₹70 crore worldwide in bookings. With more than a day still left, industry experts believe it will easily pass ₹100 crore in advance sales alone.

If these numbers are combined with the film’s first-day earnings, Coolie could potentially collect ₹150 crore on opening day. This performance may set a new all-time record for Tamil cinema’s biggest opening.
