With just weeks to go for its grand release, Coolie, starring Superstar Rajinikanth and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is already a major talking point. From star power to action-packed visuals, the film checks every box for a pan-Indian blockbuster. But now, a curious update has surfaced, while the film will release as Coolie in most languages, the Hindi version will hit screens as Mazadoor instead.
This change has stirred up a range of reactions. Film insiders say the decision was made to avoid confusion with two previously released Hindi films the 1983 Amitabh Bachchan classic Coolie, and the 2020 Coolie No. 1 featuring Varun Dhawan. Rather than repeating a familiar title, the makers reportedly opted for Mazadoor to keep it distinct, especially for a new generation of moviegoers unfamiliar with the Tamil branding.
The film features a strong ensemble cast including Nagarjuna Akkineni, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir, with Pooja Hegde set to appear in a vibrant special number. Lokesh Kanagaraj, coming off a series of massive hits, is directing Rajinikanth for the first time, a pairing that fans are eagerly anticipating. The film is mounted on a whopping ₹250 crore budget and is gunning for a massive ₹1000 crore box office haul.
Instead of letting the title debate dim its hype, the team is using it to fuel conversation. Whether it’s Coolie or Mazadoor, Rajinikanth’s swagger, Lokesh’s craft, and the scale of this project ensure it will command attention in any language.
