Sequels are tricky, sometimes they catch fire, sometimes they just smolder. The trailer of De De Pyaar De 2, starring Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, R Madhavan, Gautami Kapoor, and Meezaan Jafri, tries to recreate the same fun of the first film, but the spark feels a little off. It leans heavily on nostalgia, yet somehow the jokes land softer than expected.

In the trailer, Rakul’s Ayesha introduces her older, divorced boyfriend Ashish (Ajay) to her parents. At first, they seem okay, but then they throw in a younger prospect, played by Meezaan, creating chaos and comedy. Rakul’s attempts to hide Ashish’s real age and the ensuing antics echo the first film. Even the song Buddha Mil Gaya pops up, but it feels more like a wink than a punch.

Online reactions are all over the place. Some wondered, “Do we really need a sequel?” Others thought it looked funny enough but feared it might fall short of the original. A handful enjoyed the meta references and some jokes, while some pointed out the lack of a catchy song in the trailer. Fans are excited, but there’s also that quiet hope the full film will hit the groove the trailer couldn’t quite capture.

Produced by T-Series Films and Luv Films, De De Pyaar De 2 releases in theatres on 14 November. The trailer teases the story and humor, but whether it recaptures the charm of the first movie is still a question mark. For fans of Ajay and Rakul, it’s worth a peek, though most are hoping the film itself finds that elusive spark.
