Rakul Preet recently spoke about something she doesn’t usually discuss, the moment she first tasted a proper flop. When someone asked her about her first “big failure,” she didn’t dodge it. She simply said it was the Telugu Action thriller movie Spyder, which features superstar Mahesh Babu. That was the film where she understood how it feels when all the hype around you suddenly cracks. Until then, she had a neat row of hits with Ram Charan, NTR, Ram Pothineni, almost 8 to 10 films in a streak. So a failure felt like stepping on an unexpected pothole.

She explained it in a very real way. When she signed Spyder, she genuinely thought she was entering a dream setup, Mahesh Babu on one side, A. R. Murugadoss on the other. Anyone would assume the film would fly without effort. But when it didn’t, she felt that first jolt. She said she did her bit, acted her best, and then realised how little an actor can control once a film leaves your hands. “So, this is how a flop feels,” she told herself. But she also said she isn’t the kind of person who cries over such things. She moves on, because sitting sad never helped anyone get back up.

What she strongly believes is that falling is part of the job. “Only those who stand up can fall,” she said with a small laugh. For her, failure is basically a reminder that you’re still in the game. Instead of letting Spyder bother her, she carried the lesson forward and kept working the same way she always does.

Rakul shared all this while promoting her latest film, De De Pyaar De 2, with Ajay Devgn and Madhavan. And this time, the numbers are smiling back at her. The film has crossed Rs 60 crores and is running comfortably in theatres, putting her in a much brighter mood than those Spyder days.
