Irumudi - A Workable Formula? Or Works Just Once?

Ever since Raviteja’s Irumudi worked out big time at the box office, many are giving advice that Tollywood should change and more films like this should reach the audience. The success of this film, and its minting of huge money, led to discussion about a ‘case study’ that Tollywood should follow. However, experts are saying that there is a lot of unwanted reading into Irumudi’s success, which is not needed.

Apparently, Raviteja’s films in recent times have reached a ‘cringe max’ level with glamour, comedy and the same dance routines. Suddenly, Raviteja deviating from this path has worked out big time. At the same time, in recent times, almost all the successful films are good commercial cinema only. Now that Raviteja has deviated from that practice, it has suddenly worked out big.

Though the film is well crafted and narrated, definitely the story is something that was seen in films like Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja and other movies, but then the presentation is what matters. However, that doesn’t mean that if this formula is repeated, it will work big time. Even for Raviteja it might not work for him, as these type of happenings are just once in a blue moon kinds.

If we look into the recent past, Balagam worked, but then others didn’t; Pelli Choopulu worked, but other such young adult comedies failed. So, there is no proven formula here that works, but only an engaging film always works, provided with the right publicity, positioning and timing of release.
