Renu Desai recently spoke about the constant public attention she receives because of her past relationship with actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. The couple got divorced in 2012 but even after 14 years, people continue to identify her mainly as Pawan Kalyan's ex wife.
During a recent podcast conversation, Renu expressed her frustration over this attitude. She made an emotional comparison with Lord Ram's exile and said, "It's been 14 years. Even Lord Ram was in exile, but for only 14 years. When will my exile end?
She also spoke about how some Telugu audiences behave as if her life started only when she came to Hyderabad for the film Badri. She said, "For Telugu people, here's something about my life. I was born only in June 1999, when I came for Badri. Before that, I didn't really have a life. That's how people do it. We divorced back in 2012, right? After 2012, I produced a Marathi movie that was a super hit. Then I wrote, produced, and directed another movie. I did a dance show, wrote poetry, now I'm doing films. If I'm nobody, why would anyone call me?"
What is more disappointing is that she continues to face trolling even for her animal welfare activities. She said, "People are scolding me, saying I'll save a dog. They call it a waste in Telugu. She should have nothing to live for without him."
Now the biggest question is why some social media users are bothering her to that extent. Even her personal life has never been free from public discussion. After her divorce, Renu Desai got engaged to another person, but that marriage did not happen. Even that phase of her life attracted comments from social media users.
Some people may comment with good intentions while others may simply express their opinions, but every time people somehow bring Pawan Kalyan into the conversation. Her past relationship continues to follow her and it almost seems like she is never allowed to have an identity of her own.
Pawan Kalyan has moved forward in his personal and political life. Renu Desai also has every right to live independently and make her own decisions.
