“He Took Photos While I Was Sleeping”: Roja about Rajinikanth

Senior actress and former minister Roja was one of the popular heroines in Telugu cinema during the 1990s. She worked with several leading stars, including Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Nagarjuna and Venkatesh. She also acted in many Tamil films. In a recent interview, Roja spoke about her film journey and shared some interesting memories from her career.

Roja especially spoke about her experience of working with Superstar Rajinikanth. She revealed that she acted with him in two films. She shared that Rajinikanth was a very fun-loving person on the sets. He used to talk to her in a friendly and funny way.

Roja also recalled an interesting conversation with actress Meena. She said Meena once asked her why Rajinikanth was always serious with her but behaved differently with Roja.

Roja gave her a funny answer. She told Meena, "You are serious, so he also becomes serious because he does not know what to talk to you about." Roja added that she was always friendly and cheerful with everyone, which could be the reason Rajinikanth was also comfortable joking with her.

Roja then remembered one funny incident that happened during a shooting. After lunch, she said she slept on an easy chair. She explained that she often took short breaks whenever she got time, especially before songs and close-up shots.

While she was sleeping, Rajinikanth decided to play a prank on her. Roja said he stood near her holding an umbrella and took photographs while she was asleep. When she woke up, she was surprised to see many people standing around her.

She later realized that Rajinikanth was standing there with the umbrella. Roja recalled the incident as one of the funny memories from her film career. She said Rajinikanth was known for doing such playful things in front of everyone.

Roja also spoke about legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan. She said that despite being such a senior actor, he spent most of his time on the shooting set. She remembered that he would not leave the set until the lunch break. Roja said that the dedication of senior actors taught the younger generation many valuable lessons.

Roja was also asked why she never acted with Kamal Haasan. She said she had chosen not to accept an opportunity to work with him. "I was not interested in acting with him. It was completely my personal decision," she explained.
