Some films don’t just end they echo. Yuganiki Okkadu (Aayirathil Oruvan), released in 2010, wasn’t just a movie it was an experience that lingered in the minds of fans for years. And now, over a decade later, director Selvaraghavan has stirred the pot once again, revealing his unwavering desire to bring its sequel to life this time, with both Karthi and Dhanush at the helm.
While the initial buzz around a sequel surfaced in 2021 with Dhanush being considered for the lead, things didn't progress as expected. But in a recent candid chat, Selvaraghavan made one thing crystal clear Yuganiki Okkadu 2 cannot exist without Karthi. “Yes, Dhanush is in. But Karthi is essential. These two together can bring the vision alive,” he said, adding that the project would require at least a year from both actors and a massive production budget to match its scale and ambition.
Karthi, currently juggling projects like Sardaar 2, hasn’t officially confirmed his involvement, but fans are buzzing with anticipation. The big question remains in an industry where stars are booked months in advance, can this dream lineup align? “Only if a passionate producer steps in,” Selvaraghavan admitted, pointing to budget constraints as the biggest hurdle standing in the way of this grand vision.
While Yuganiki Okkadu 2 hangs in the balance, the director isn’t waiting around. He’s deep into filming 7/G Brindavan Colony 2, revealing that the story picks up ten years after Kadhir’s lonely ending. “You may have missed it, but the seed for Part 2 was planted in Part 1,” he said with a smile. If one thing is clear, it’s this: Selvaraghavan doesn’t just create films he builds worlds. And while those worlds may take time to revisit, when they do return, they promise to be nothing short of unforgettable.
