Director's Big Dream Project, But Will Producers Pay?

There was once a time when Shankar was one of the most celebrated and iconic film makers in South Indian cinema, but that is not even remotely the case now as he is horribly out of form. This got established again in the form of Game Changer.

Shankar is reportedly moving ahead with his long planned dream project Vel Pari, and actor Dhanush is said to be almost finalized to play the lead role.

According to industry buzz, the filmmaker has asked Dhanush to allot nearly two years of dates for the ambitious historical project, indicating the massive scale and long production schedule being planned.

The film is believed to be based on the legendary Tamil king Vel Pari, a celebrated ruler known for his valor and generosity during the Sangam era. Bringing such a historic story to the big screen would require extensive pre production work, grand sets, and high end visual effects.

Meanwhile, discussions are also underway with Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal, who recently gained massive attention for his performance in the historical film Chhaava, to play another major character in the film. If finalized, the project could turn into a strong pan Indian collaboration.

However, despite the excitement around the casting, the project still faces a key challenge. Since the film demands a huge budget and a long production timeline, makers are currently waiting to see whether a major production house will step forward to finance the project at the scale envisioned by Shankar.

If everything falls into place, Vel Pari could become one of the most ambitious historical films in Indian cinema. But the question is whether any top producer in Indian cinema would actually come forward to produce this film.
