Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of the most acclaimed directors in Indian cinema. Even big stars wait for a chance to work under his director. He knows how to make dramatic movies and bring the best out of his artists. He presented Aishwarya in the best way possible through movies like 'Devdas', 'Guzaarish', 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam'.

He turned Deepika Padukone into a top artist and her performances in his movies like 'Ram Leela', 'Bajirao Mastani' and 'Padmavat' are the prime examples of it. Rani Mukharjee gave her career best performance in 'Black' which was Bhansali's film and his last outing 'Gangubai Khatiawadi' showcased how well Alia Bhatt can perform.

He is now arriving with a Netflix series named 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar'. Set in the backdrop of undivided India, the movie sheds light on the life on women in red-light districts at that time. The makers have given a glimpse of the series and the grandeur has Sanjay Leela Bhansali's mark written all over it. This time, the main cast includes Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chaddha, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sharmin Segal.

The synopsis of 'Heeramandi' says, “In the midst of a power struggle in Heeramandi, a young heir caught in the crossfire chooses love over succession, disrupting the status quo. Set in pre-independent India against a burgeoning freedom movement, the final thread holding the art of tawaifs (courtesans) is put to the test.” This is reportedly a passion project of Bhansali as he has been researching on it for over 14 years.

He said, “This is an epic, first of its kind series based on the courtesans of Lahore. It is an ambitious, grand and all-encompassing series; therefore I am nervous yet excited about making it. I am looking forward to my partnership with Netflix and bringing Heeramandi to audiences all over the world.” The release is yet to be revealed.
